Joseph Kahn appointed the Harald Trap Friis Professor
His research addresses communication and imaging through optical fibers.
Professor Joseph Kahn has been appointed the Harald Trap Friis Professor.
Established in 1992 through contributions from friends and family, this provostial chair honors Dr. Harald T. Friis, one of the most prolific contributors of his era to microwave theory and practice. Originally created to support faculty focused on microwave and antenna propagation, the professorship has since been broadened to recognize research advances in electrical engineering, applied physics, or related fields. Joe’s leading work in optical communications makes him a fitting successor to previous holders Andrei Linde (2008-2023) and Donald Clyde Cox (1994-2008).
Joseph’s research addresses communication and imaging through optical fibers, including modulation, detection, signal processing and spatial multiplexing.
Please join us in congratulating Joe on his well-earned honor.
